Cute potted conifer to offer or treat yourself!
Araucaria is native to the volcanic slopes of the Peruvian and Chilean Andes, which explains its relative hardiness compared to most other species in the kind .
The Araucaria is a conifer with foliage persistent which can reach nearly 25 m in height with a spread of 10 m in its original environment.
It owes its popular name “monkey despair” to its bright green, interlocking and very pointed triangular leaves, making it impossible for said critters to climb.
Its dark gray-brown bark is horizontally wrinkled, which further adds to its ornamental side. The tree produces male and female cones of more or less ovoid shape. The female cones will take over two years to mature and produce small edible seeds.
